Overflowing of litter spotted near our community
"I came across this 'disturbing sight' and wanted to show it to you guys. "So much for a litter-free Singapore." - Ms Ng
Cleanliness in our neighborhood has decline, despite the numerous times reminding Singaporeans to stop littering and advertisements pasted on trash bins stating " Singapore Litter Free " it has only fallen on deaf ears.
"It's strange that we have to enforce law to deter littering when we have litter bin all around Singapore. In fact, I suspect Singapore is the country that has the highest proportion of rubbish bin to population.
Since we were well-educated from young not to litter, I think the fine imposed on littering is targeted at Singaporeans who are less well-learned, or well-taught, or both. Oh, and don't forget the 20% of the population whom we called “foreign workers”. - comment made by Chen Ming
The community should be more considerate in throwing their trash , when they see that the trash bin is already overflowing , do not throw your trash anymore , instead find another trash bin to throw away your trash. Everyone in our community plays a part in preventing littering in our neighborhood If this is not prevented , all the thrash will start pilling up and it will create a disturbing place to look at. It is also not hygienic to throw litter wherever you go.
Below are some TIPS that you should take:
Preventing it
Everyone has a role to play in preventing litter. Changing a common behavior, like littering, starts with you. Each person must accept responsibility for their actions and influence the actions of others around them at home, at school, in your place of business, and in the community at large. Start with these actions:
- Choose not to litter. Ever.
- Remind others not to litter and explain why litter is a bad thing.
- Get a litter bag or portable ash receptacles. If you see litter, pick it up. Dispose of full litter bags appropriately.
- Volunteer in your community for organized litter cleanup events.

I hope the public will come together hand in hand , and prevent littering from spreading.
